We are proud to introduce Music by Women Publishing, which produces easily-accessible digital publications of outstanding compositions by women in beautifully formatted new editions. We select pieces from 5 centuries of music by women in a variety of styles and instrumentations to satisfy a broad audience of performers, educators, and scholars.
Our editor, experienced conductor and professor, Dr. Elizabeth Fisher, provides new translations, and helpful, well-researched performance notes.
Publications coming soon:
Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel’s solo piano series Das Jahr (The Year)
This is a collection of 12 exquisite character pieces, one representing each month of the year. Intermediate and advanced pianists studying Romantic music by Brahms and Chopin will particularly enjoy discovering this series.
Maddalena Laura Sirmen’s Op.5 Violin Duets from 1775
These 6 exciting violin duets in the Classical style are versatile and perfect for violinists of various ability levels. These could be easily performed duos of instruments other than the violin, too.
Vittoria Aleotti’s 1593 book of madrigals for four voices - Ghirlanda de madrigali (Garland of Madrigals)
These 22 beautiful pieces, arranged for SATB or SSAA, are perfect additions to the standard high school and college madrigal repertoire. Since madrigal ensembles today often include highly-motivated, intelligent young singers, use this chance to introduce them to Renaissance music by women.
